About Our Program:
Welcome to Shooting Stars Ranch Toy and Mini Aussies, owned and operated by Sadie and Michael Vandehey. Our daughter, Lillian, is also a huge part of our program - she helps with socializing, grooming, and showing our dogs and puppies. Shooting Stars Ranch is located in Archer county, Texas on 11 acres. We are a small breeder of Toy and Miniature Australian Shepherds, dedicated to producing healthy, loving, correct puppies. We strive to maintain the look of a standard size Aussie - just in a smaller package. All of our adults are registered with ASDR and have been tested for genetic issues that could be passed on to your puppy; thus, we are able to breed puppies free of those common problems. Our dogs are not "kennel" dogs, they are raised as pets and members of our family. Puppies are born and raised in or home; they are handled and loved every day by me, my husband, and our children. They are well socialized and will be happy and friendly when they get to go to their new home with you. We have completed the Savvy Socialization course and use techniques based on current research to prepare our puppies to be well adjusted. Puppies are introduced to various sounds, other animals, different physical challenges (climbing, tunnels), and new people. We are always available to our clients - before, during, and after you bring your new family member home - whether it's for questions, advice, concerns, or puppy updates.
About The Breed
Toy and Miniature Aussies are extremely intelligent, loyal, and loving. They are generally easy to train and eager to please their person. People often ask what the difference between a Toy and a Mini Aussie is. The difference is based on height at the top of the shoulder. An Aussie is classified as "Toy" if measuring under 14." An Aussie is classified as "Mini" if measuring between 14" and 18." An Aussie taller than 18" is classified as a "Standard." Weight is not a factor in distinguishing between the size variations.
More About Us:
I (Sadie) have been raising Toy and Mini Australian Shepherds since 2008. Animals have always been a passion of mine, and I love getting to share the joy these dogs bring me with others. In addition to Toy and Mini Aussies, we also have Nigerian Dwarf goats, horses, cats, a parrot, and chickens. Outside of breeding dogs, I work part-time as a psychotherapist. My husband, Michael, is a psychologist and a professor. We have four children, who all share our love for animals and enjoy getting to be involved raising puppies.
